About Malaysia

About Malaysia - just like many other countries, Malaysia has its hidden gems as well as traps. The idea is to discover the gems and to avoid the traps. I will share with you all that I know and love about this beautiful and friendly country where I was born and where I call home.



Though it is a relatively young country, gaining independence from the British only in 1957, it has an interesting history and a rich and diverse culture. Here you'll discover more about Malaysia, and hopefully discover the gems. Check out the things you can do in Malaysia.

Culture and Religion

The Malays here are similar to the Malays of Indonesia and the Philippines. They form about 60% of the population. This is followed by the Chinese, at about 25% of its population. The Indians form about 8% of its population. The others include indigenous people of the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak. There are also significant numbers of Eurasians here too.

The continent of Asia is a melting pot of different cultures, wonders and attractions. The country of Malaysia is situated in the heart of Asia. The population in this country is very mixed comprising of Malays, Chinese and Indians. Malaysia is one of the leading tourist destinations and is very popular for its towering skyscrapers, natural wonders, beautiful beaches and some of the great diving spots in the world. The people of Malaysia speak Malay (Bahasa Melayu) and this is the official language. English is widely spoken in the country also. You will come across various ethnic groups who speak various languages and dialects. Islam is the official language followed here but other religions are freely practiced here.
The weather in Malaysia remains generally warm throughout the year. Temperatures range from 23 and 32 degree Celsius. The country also witnesses a high amount of rainfall throughout the year. The amount of rainfall usually ranges from 2000mm and 2500mm in a year. The months of November, December and January and April to June are the peak tourist months.
The people of Malaysia love their food. There are numerous restaurants in Malaysia that serve world class cuisine. You will find a range of Chinese, Malaysia, Japanese and Thai Cuisine. Some of the popular restaurants include Amy's Malaysian Restaurant, Golden Dragon, Mayflower, Panda and
Rasa Sayang. Satay with Peanut Sauce is a very popular dish in Malaysia. It is the mainstay of Malaysian Cuisine where beef or chicken is served in spicy peanut sauce is served. Nasi Lemak is a morning favorite among the people of Malaysia. The dish comprises of rice served with coconut milk and served with chilly pate, anchovies, peanuts and cucumber.
Malaysia boasts of a number of tourist attractions in Malaysia. The capital city of Kuala Lumpur has plenty to offer in terms of shopping, entertainment and sightseeing. The other popular tourist destinations in the country are Penang, Johor, Selangor, Langkawi among many others. Each state in Malaysia is different from the other in terms of the people, their culture and lifestyle. Visiting each state is a completely new experience. There are innumerable world class hotels located all over Malaysia and accommodation is never a problem.
